Transcription Connect your profile to the company's needs.

Demonstrating that you possess the required skills is important, but it is even more effective to directly connect your profile to the specific needs of the organization.

You should present your candidacy not only as qualified, but as the ideal solution to the company's challenges or goals.

The 8 key competencies employers are looking for

While each position has unique technical requirements, there are a set of soft skills that most employers universally value.

Being aware of them allows you to highlight relevant aspects of your expertise:

Result orientation: ability to set and achieve goals, acting with determination and a sense of urgency. Demonstrates commitment to goals.

Time organization: Ability to plan, prioritize and manage time effectively to accomplish important tasks. Includes habits such as diary management and planning.

Communication skills: Ability to convey information clearly (verbally and non-verbally) and, crucially, to listen to understand before being understood.

Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse people towards a common goal, building positive relationships. Includes seeking win-win relationships.

Impact and influence: Ability to persuade others and gain their commitment to your ideas, often linked to leadership.

Decision making: Ability to analyze alternatives, evaluate risks and benefits, and choose the most appropriate course of action.

Adaptability to change: Flexibility to adjust to new situations, processes or challenges with a positive attitude.

Pressure management: Ability to maintain efficiency and emotional control in stressful situations (tight deadlines, overwork, disagreements).

Identify which of these competencies are most relevant to the position you are applying for and prepare examples to illustrate them.

Focus your answer on "why you are the best solution" for their needs.

Remember that the interview has a fundamental purpose for the employer: to determine who is the best person for their position in their organization today.

Therefore, every answer you give should be geared toward answering that implicit question, "Why are you the best solution for our needs?"

Don't just describe your past assignments; explain how your actions generated positive results and how that experience translates into concrete benefits for them.

Align your pitch with the company's mission and values (previously researched).

Demonstrate that you not only have the skills, but also that you are a cultural fit with the organization.

Use the research you previously conducted on the company's mission, vision and values.

When talking about your motivations, experiences or way of working, make reference (where natural and relevant) to how your own values or approach aligns with theirs.

This shows that you have done your homework and that you understand and share (or respect and can adapt to) their corporate philosophy.

Summary

Demonstrating your skills is important, but it is more effective to connect your profile to the specific needs of the organization. You must present yourself as the ideal solution. Employers value key competencies such as result orientation and organization.

Other sought-after competencies include communication, teamwork, decision-making, adaptability and pressure management. Every answer should be geared towards demonstrating why you are the best solution.
