Goal setting is a crucial component of achievement and well-being, and its effectiveness is enhanced when defined intelligently and realistically.

Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound to maximize the likelihood of success.

Criteria for Effective Goals

For goals to drive action and generate a sense of competence, they must be more than just wishes. The acronym SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound) is a useful framework for defining them.

Specific: Deben ser claras y bien definidas, evitando la ambigüedad.

Measurable: Se debe poder cuantificar el progreso y el éxito.

Achievable: Aunque pueden ser desafiantes, deben estar dentro del rango de lo posible con el esfuerzo y los recursos disponibles.

Realistas/Relevantes: They must be relevant to the person's values and vision of life, and take into account the reality of the context.

Goal setting should not be limited to one aspect of life. It is beneficial to define goals in various areas such as family, work, sports or hobbies, personal development and academics. For example, in academics, do not get stuck behind a degree.
