Transcription Nlp techniques for emotional regulation in anxiety
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) offers a set of techniques designed to understand and modify patterns of thinking and behavior, with the goal of improving communication, personal development, and emotional regulation.
Some of these techniques can be useful as complementary tools in managing anxiety.
NLP. Emotional Memory Recoding (Visual)
A visual NLP technique for managing memories or mental images associated with negative emotions (such as anxiety or fear) involves "recoding" that memory.
It works with the submodalities of the mental image: its size, brightness, color, distance, etc.
For example, if an anxious memory is visualized as a large, close, and very bright image, you can mentally practice making it smaller, moving it further away, decreasing its brightness, or even changing it to black and white.
By modifying these visual characteristics, you can alter the emotional intensity associated with the memory, making it less upsetting.
NLP. Feeling Restructuring (Energetic)
This technique focuses on the "energetic" perception of emotions.
It starts from the idea that emotions have a quality of movement or direction in the body.
If a feeling of anxiety is perceived as energy rising in the chest, for example, one can consciously try to change the direction of that energetic flow (bring it down), its speed (slow it down), or even its imagined color.
By playing with these energetic perceptions and changing their qualities, one seeks to modify the subjective experience of the emotion, making it more manageable or transforming it into a different sensation.
Changing Negative Self-Talk (Auditory)
Negative self-talk is an important component of anxiety.
NLP offers techniques to modify the auditory characteristics of this "inner voice."
If the critical or anxious voice is perceived as a high, fast, and authoritative pitch, you can mentally practice changing that pitch to a lower, slower, or even goofy one (like a cartoon character's voice).
By altering these auditory qualities, you can lessen the believability and emotional impact of negative self-talk.
NLP. Anchoring Positive Emotional States (Kinesthetic/Tactile)
Anchoring is a technique that seeks to associate a desired positive emotional state (such as calmness or confidence) with a specific stimulus, often a physical or tactile (kinesthetic)
