Transcription Health problems and their influence on sleep.

Taking care of our health is fundamental when it comes to maintaining a pleasant lifestyle and without affectations that threaten our ability to develop socially to the fullest. We know that the meals we eat before going to sleep, the presence of natural or artificial light, the influence of noise, the effects of the consumption of substances such as caffeine, alcohol or nicotine, are very common factors among people who suffer from insomnia or suffer from severe disorders when it comes to falling into a deep and restful sleep.

Although the factors mentioned above are decisive when it comes to achieving adequate rest, our state of health and the diseases we have can have a significant influence on how we sleep. Bearing in mind the importance of this topic for understanding how to achieve an efficient sleep process, we will be analyzing some of the most important points when assessing the impact of our state of health on the quality of our sleep.

Respiratory problems

Breathing problems are very common conditions in most people. These problems can be caused by various causes, among the most common are environmental conditions, the presence of some mild diseases, acute or chronic, habits and lifestyles sustained over time, the consumption of harmful substances such as snuff, among others.

When we suffer from respiratory problems, it is very likely that the quality of our sleep is affected by constant interruptions. The sensations of suffocation, the appearance of snoring, sore throats, the presence of abundant nasal secretions, coughing and sneezing, are common effects of respiratory diseases that cause a great impact on our sleep.

Emotional problems

Mental health also plays a very important role in the quality of our sleep. Being subjected to high levels of stress can have a severe impact on how long it takes us to fall asleep and how our sleep develops during the night. People who suffer from high levels of stress often do not feel sleepy enough to go to bed, and this motivates them to stay up late or consume substances such as alcohol, under the false belief that they will be able to sleep better this way.

Going to sleep, invaded by worries, anxiety and daily problems, will prevent you from reaching a state of relaxation enough to fall asleep deeply.

Meditation can be a very efficient mechanism to achieve emotional calm. If you feel mentally affected, try meditating an hour before going to sleep and decrease all stimuli around you. If this does not work, you may need to see a health specialist, who can clinically assess your case and recommend alternative ways to relieve your emotional burden.
