Transcription The Empowerment Model and Key Moments
Introduction to the Empowerment Model
Now I want to show you the empowerment model, a tool that I consider fundamental for our growth and that has its origins in cognitive-behavioral therapy.
This model has been used to help thousands of people improve their way of thinking and, as a consequence, the overall quality of their lives.
The objective of this framework is to learn how to use it to manage stress and to actively develop our resilience.
It is a structure that gives us back our power, showing us that we are not victims of what happens to us, but the architects of our own life experience.
The Chain of Cause and Effect of the Model
The most important thing about this empowerment model is that it works through a cause and effect nature, where each step triggers the next.
Everything starts with a circumstance, which inevitably triggers a series of thoughts, perceptions, and judgments that we create about what has happened.
These thoughts that we generate are what, in turn, trigger our feelings, which end up determining the behavior we will have.
Ultimately, our behavior is what causes our results, and these results are what establish the new circumstances that we will face in the future.
This cycle teaches us that, by taking control of the link of thoughts, we can influence the entire chain and, therefore, the course of our lives.
Defining Key Moments
Within this model, it is crucial to talk about the key moment, which represents the starting point of the entire cycle.
I define a key moment as any situation, circumstance, or event that turns out to be emotionally challenging for us, whether in a big or small way.
Some minor examples might be a friend not showing up for an appointment, while other major examples might be finding out that you are going to be fired.
Criticism of A presentation at work, getting a bad grade, or seeing a teenager rebel are also examples of these pivotal moments.
