Transcription Rereading techniques

Among the most important study techniques or methods, the one we will analyze below is probably the one most used by students around the world. Many come to it by their own mechanisms, while others, after studying it, decide to put it into practice.

The technique we are referring to is to "reread", that is, to go over the reading once again. Of course, this has its own methodology, since it is not as simple as reading for the sake of reading. Rereading is a technique that writers know very well, due to the notable differences that exist between a first and a second reading. When a writer reads for the first time what he has written, he usually does not find many mistakes, while the emotion of the moment plays as a bias that does not allow discerning between logical structures and those that are not.

The same happens with music or cinema. Even if we do not reread a piece of music or an audiovisual work, the first impression it conveys is very distant from the next ones we will receive.

Due to the importance of this technique for students, we will dedicate the following lines to analyze in a general way the basic content of this technique and how we can use it in our studies.

What does it consist of?

The rereading technique is designed to help students find aspects that they missed in their first reading. It is not based on reading the same thing twice consecutively, but rather on applying a recommended methodology for this second reading. Not only do we reread what we have studied, but we must also reread the answers we have developed and the notes we have taken.

Methodology for the second reading

It is not useful to reread the same thing once you have finished the first reading. The idea is to let your mind rest, if you have a lot of time you could even let a day or two pass in between.

When we read a content for the second time and there is a considerable time between the first reading and this one, we usually find aspects that we did not appreciate the first time we read, likewise, if we are reading something written by ourselves it will be much easier to find errors and inconsistencies in our writing.

The importance of having some time between the two readings is associated with our subconscious, which is at work even when we think we are resting. This explains why we often seem to find the previous day's answers when we wake up in the morning.

Application for memorizing
