Transcription The Chronification of the Harassment and Expulsion Phase

Marginalization or Occupational Exclusion Phase

If the previous phases are not stopped, the harassment becomes chronic and the victim enters a state of "civil death" within the company.

In this stage, the worker is stripped of his real functions; he is assigned demeaning tasks far below his qualifications or, on the contrary, is left without any workload at all ("empty table syndrome"), forcing him to stare at the wall for eight hours.

Physical and social isolation is total: colleagues stop talking to him for fear of reprisals.

The victim becomes an outcast, and his presence in the office becomes a daily psychological torture designed to break his mental resistance and force his "voluntary" departure.

Psychophysical Impairment and Medical Leave

There is a limit to human endurance.Prolonged exposure to hostility causes a breakdown in the victim's health.

Sick leave due to anxiety, depression or psychosomatic ailments begins.

For the aggressor and the complicit company, these absences are the "proof" they need to justify that the employee is "unfit" or has previous mental problems.

The medical history, a consequence of the mistreatment, is used as an argument to prepare the dismissal.

It is a perverse cycle where the normal reaction to an abnormal situation is used to discredit the sanity of the individual, who has less and less energy resources to defend himself.

Expulsion or Exit from the Organization Phase

The final outcome of the mobbing cycle is the expulsion of the victim from the work environment.

This exit can take several forms: a disciplinary dismissal (based on fabricated accusations), an objective dismissal for alleged "supervening ineptitude", or the resignation of the worker as the only way to save his or her mental and physical health.

In the most tragic cases, expulsion does not end the suffering, since the victim is burdened with a professional stigma and a trauma that hinders her reinsertion into the labor market.

The aggressor, having achieved his goal without consequences, is empowered and is free to select his next victim, perpetuating the toxicity in the organization.

Summary

If left unchecked, harassment becomes chronic, marginalizing the victim, assigning her demeaning tasks or leaving her without a job to cause total isolation and psychological torture.

Prolonged exposure causes psychophysical deterioration and medical leave, which the company perversely uses as proof of ineptitude to justify the dismissal of the employee concerned.

The cycle concludes with the expulsion of the victim, either by dismissal or forced resignation, leaving the aggressor unpunished and empowered to select a new target.
