From technical advice to guided discovery

The evolution of the profession has led to a distinction between a technical advisor and an image coach.

While the traditional advice focuses on dictating rules on what to wear, image coaching seeks to accompany internal change processes so that they are reflected on the outside.

The fundamental principle is to avoid direct imposition; instead of telling the client "you have to wear this", strategic questions are used so that the client discovers his or her own style and needs.

This approach generates a deeper and more sustainable transformation, as the final decision and responsibility for change lies with the client, not the expert.

The professional acts as a facilitator who helps the person to find his or her own solutions, rather than simply being a provider of automatic answers.

Trust building and rapport

For an imaging process to be successful, it is imperative to establish a solid foundation of affinity and trust, technically known as "Rapport".

The client must feel in a safe space to confess physical insecurities or stylistic blocks without fear of judgment. Confidentiality is a non-negotiable pillar in this relationship.

The coach must develop active listening, resisting the temptation to interrupt to offer immediate solutions, and allowing the client to express him/herself fully.

This emotional connection allows for understanding not only the client's morphology, but the psychology behind their wardrobe choices.

Defining purpose and commitment

Before touching a single garment, the "what for" of the process must be clarified. It is essential to define the purpose of the meeting and understand what the client's deeper goal is beyond looking good.

It's not just about clothes, but about efficiently communicating a message about who the person is and what they do. However, no strategy works without engagement.

Commitment is the foundation of the entire process; if the client is not willing to perform the tasks or deal with the suggested changes, the professional relationship will not bear fruit.
