Transcription Carnivorous diet and ketogenic diet.

Many consumers of low-carbohydrate diets often confuse the carnivorous diet and the ketogenic diet, believing that it is the same thing with different names or that the ketogenic diet is simply a light variant of the carnivorous diet.

The truth is that nothing is further from the truth. The ketogenic diet and the carnivorous diet are very different, and although they share certain similarities, their principles and eating habits are not similar. Below we will see where these differences lie and how we can identify them.

Carbohydrates

The ketogenic diet focuses on inducing the state of ketosis in our organism through low carbohydrate intake, the idea is that our body replaces carbohydrates as a source of energy with fats. As you know, the carnivorous diet is intolerant to carbohydrates, so in principle this is something that both diets strongly share.

Notwithstanding the above, the ketogenic diet has many variables in this regard. This, in its various forms, allows to resume the intake of carbohydrates after a few days, and in other cases does not eliminate them completely, but reduces their consumption significantly. On the other hand, the carnivorous diet ends up eliminating carbohydrates completely because it considers them useless and harmful to our diet.

That said, there are differences in the consumption of carbohydrates between the ketogenic diet and the carnivorous diet, the first decreases or cancels them temporarily to induce ketosis and the second eliminates them completely because they are considered harmful to our health.

Fruits and vegetables

Regarding the consumption of fruits and vegetables, carnivores have it very clear, "Plants are poison". The carnivorous diet does not conceive any intrusion of plants in its food plan, for carnivores consuming plants is extremely harmful to our health because they consider them as the origin of many of the current diseases that the human being presents. They base their thesis on the fact that man is by nature a carnivore and that the consumption of plants is nothing more than the result of the technological-agrarian evolution that has led to man's dominion over them.

On the other hand, the followers of the ketogenic diet do contemplate the consumption of plants. Fruits are welcome as well as vegetables, they only ensure that the content of what they eat is very low in sugar.

Flexibility of the diet.

Another notable difference between the two diets is the remarkable flexibility of the ketogenic diet compared to the carnivorous diet.

The ketogenic diet is technically adaptable to any person. It is estimated that there are more than 100 types of ketogenic diets. Although they all have the same purpose, to provoke ketosis in our body and thus replace carbohydrates by fats as a source of energy, the ways to achieve this in each variant can change a lot. We can find some that limit the consumption of carbohydrates to very low figures, others that eliminate it completely and some variants that only interrupt it temporarily.

Lesser known variants usually attack fruits while others tolerate almost any food that is low in carbohydrates. So if your desire is to continue eating carbohydrates but adopt this type of diet, you will be able to find some variation to suit your tastes.

In the case of the carnivore diet things are much clearer. Unlike the ketogenic diet, in the carnivorous diet we are not going to find this type of variants. The fundamentals of the carnivorous diet are very clear and do not accept any flexibility. When more, you will be able to find recommendations like the ones we have given you in other topics, to reduce little by little the consumption of carbohydrates and not to leave them in one day, so that you do not feel abstinence for them, but in the end, sooner or later to execute correctly this diet you will have to leave them completely.
