Creating the Reality We Fear

The self-fulfilling prophecy is a cycle in which, without realizing it, we ourselves are responsible for making our fears come true.

It all starts with the firm belief or thought that something we are going to try will go wrong.

This belief is not an objective prediction of the future, but a projection of our own fears and insecurities.

We convince ourselves so much of a negative outcome that, unconsciously, we work so that it finally materializes in our lives.

The Mechanism of Foretold Failure

The mechanism is simple: believing that something will go wrong fills you with feelings of anxiety and deep doubts.

Because of this anxiety, you act with fear, with prevention and without the necessary confidence to be successful in your endeavor.

This fearful and doubtful behavior is what inevitably leads you to obtain a bad result, that is, to failure.

When you fail, your initial belief is confirmed and you say to yourself: "I knew it, I knew this was going to happen."

Breaking the Spell. The Power of Conscious Response

To change the results you get, it is absolutely necessary that you break this mental cycle and take control.

You must start by taking conscious control of your thoughts and your interpretation of situations.

Instead of reacting emotionally and without thinking, you have to learn to respond in the best way possible.

Even feeling fear, you must act with a strategy that will allow you to obtain the results you truly desire.

Summary

The self-fulfilling prophecy is a cycle where our fears come true. It begins with a negative belief. We become so convinced of a negative outcome that we unconsciously act to make it happen. Believing something will go wrong creates feelings of anxiety. We act out of fear, without the confidence to succeed. This behavior, in turn, leads to failure. When we fail, our initial belief is confirmed, reinforcing the cycle. To break it, we need to consciously take control of our thoughts and, even while feeling fear, act with a strategy that will lead us to the desired results.
