Transcription Fundamentals of Performance Appraisal

Systematic measurement of results and behaviors

Performance appraisal is defined as a technical and systematic tool that allows organizations to objectively verify the level of achievement of individual goals of each professional in the workforce.

This process is not limited exclusively to quantifying production, but extends to an in-depth analysis of the work behavior and overall performance of the professionals.

The primary objective is to determine whether the execution of tasks by the employee is suitable with respect to the specific requirements of the position he/she occupies or could occupy in the immediate future within the institutional structure.

For this assessment to be valid, it must be based on standards based on relevant information about the job position, analyzing strengths, weaknesses and the degree of integration of the individual with the values of the organization.

A well-executed evaluation allows the identification of possibilities for improvement, outstanding skills and underlying problems that affect group productivity.

Difference between management and performance appraisal

It is essential to distinguish between performance appraisal and performance management in order to optimize human talent processes.

While appraisal is the systematic assessment at a given point in time, performance management is the continuous process of optimizing employee performance by aligning it with the strategic objectives of the organization.

Experts in this field apply psychological principles so that success factors are not the product of chance, but of planned capability development.

In an ideal system, the measurement process serves to confirm the effectiveness of internal programs; if the scores obtained are not valid and reliable, any decision based on them will be strategically meaningless.

Integral management uses the results of the evaluation as a basis for advising improvements, encouraging the commitment and active participation of all workers to raise the organization's quality standard.
