The Metaphor of Excess Weight

It is helpful to think of our accumulated negative experiences as unnecessary excess weight or ballast.

No vehicle, whether air or sea, can operate efficiently if it is carrying excess weight; its ability to move is compromised.

Similarly, we can ask ourselves: how can we expect to move forward smoothly in our lives if we are carrying the dead weight of unresolved past experiences, grudges or recurring negative thoughts?

This excess emotional and mental baggage slows down our progress and consumes vital energy that we could be using much more constructively. Recognizing this ballast is the first step in releasing it.

The Need to Let Go and Put in Order

The power of turning the page lies precisely in the ability to consciously let go of those elements of the past that prevent us from moving forward.

This includes recurring negative thoughts, unprocessed traumatic experiences, dramas we cling to or any emotional baggage that keeps us anchored.

Just as a ship must release ballast to sail better, we need to release these mental and emotional weights in order to take off to new horizons.

It involves thinking about those specific things that hold us back, bringing them to light, saying goodbye to them symbolically or literally, and bringing order to our inner landscape.

Reconciliation with the Past and Extraction of Learning

Turning the page does not mean denying or erasing the past, but reconciling with it. It involves putting an end to the damage it continues to cause us in the present, recognizing that, although the negative experiences occurred, they no longer need to continue to define our now.

The past, as we have mentioned on other occasions, has already happened and cannot be changed.

It makes no sense to live with that extra burden, except for a fundamental purpose: to extract the correct reading, the valuable conclusion, the learning that that negative experience may have brought us for our maturity and growth. Once the lesson has been extracted, the rest of the emotional ballast can and should be released.

Focusing on the Present to Build the Future

By letting go of the ballast of the past, we accomplish several important things. First, we stop wasting energy on reminiscing or resisting what can no longer be changed.

Second, we create mental and emotional space to focus on the only thing over which we have real power: the present.

By freeing ourselves from unnecessary burdens, we begin a new path, much lighter and with renewed energy.

This energy, which was previously consumed in keeping past discomfort alive, can now be redirected toward actively building the future we desi
