Transcription Masters and Johnson Model: Basics

Paradigm shift: From performance to experience.

The central foundation of the sex therapy developed by Masters and Johnson lies in dismantling the "performance" mentality that often governs intimate encounters.

Many sexual dysfunctions are perpetuated because individuals approach sex as a task with a mandatory goal, usually intercourse and orgasm.

This goal orientation generates immense pressure that paradoxically inhibits the natural physiological response.

The therapeutic approach seeks to re-educate the couple to abandon the role of "spectators" of their own performance (judging themselves in real time) and become immersed participants in the experience.

The notion of success or failure based on erection or climax is eliminated, redefining success as the ability to surrender to shared sensations without censorship or end result expectations.

The focus on the sensory "here and now".

The intervention prioritizes mindfulness in the present moment. The couple is instructed to redirect their cognitive focus from future concerns ("Will I manage to maintain an erection?", "Will I reach orgasm?") to the immediate perception of tactile and emotional stimuli.

The goal is to inhabit the body and feel skin-to-skin contact as it happens, moment to moment.

By anchoring the mind in the actual physical sensation, anticipatory anxiety that often blocks arousal is reduced.

If the mind wanders to fear of failure, it is gently invited to return to the texture, temperature and pressure of physical contact.

This practice trains the brain to associate intimacy with pleasure and relaxation, rather than with eva luation and stress.

Elimination of the goal of orgasm as a requirement.

An indispensable technical pillar is the explicit prohibition of seeking orgasm or ejaculatory response as the ultimate goal of the encounter.

It is established that climax, if it occurs, should be a natural and unforced consequence of relaxation and pleasure, never a goal to be pursued.

In the initial stages, orgasm may even be prohibited to take that pressure off the table completely.

This restructuring allows arousal to flow without the threat of a "final exam."

By removing the demand for performance, the parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for relaxation and arousal) can operate without interference fro
