Transcription Problems of the pharmaceutical industry

The great boom and development of the pharmaceutical industry, together with the advances in medicine and science in general, has allowed us to raise our quality and average life expectancy as a species. The much-demonized pharmaceutical industry is the same one that is behind the antibiotics we use to eliminate bacteria that centuries ago were capable of exterminating an entire population. It is drugs that help us overcome deadly diseases or cope with others that can be very painful.

There is also another side to the pharmaceutical industry, a side that is very much repudiated by those who do not like to see their health as a business. Because the industry we are talking about is one of the most lucrative and it is no secret to anyone that its goal is to sell as many drugs as possible. All this leads to the generation of myths such as that he who creates the cure creates the disease, that drugs eventually cause more diseases or that they are only placebos.

In this guide we will not focus on the myths surrounding this topic, but on factual issues regarding some very pressing problems in the pharmaceutical industry.

Drug abuse

Medications are very necessary, this is an irrefutable fact. The problem with drugs is that they are always sold to us as the first option and not as what they should be, a secondary option. When we have a slight fever we reduce it with medication, even though this is a defense mechanism of our organism and in fact it is capable by itself of getting rid of the fever in a great number of occasions. It happens in the same way with mild infections, which are fought with antibiotics unnecessarily, instead of washing them well and waiting for their healing.

This logic has entered our heads because of the complicity between pharmaceutical companies who want to sell their drugs and unprofessional doctors who lack the skills to prescribe treatments.

Rejection of natural medicine

The pharmaceutical industry rejects anything it cannot sell us as medicine. Doctors in most countries are forbidden to prescribe natural treatments for illnesses because they are not considered medicines. The problem lies in the fact that for something to be considered a drug, it must undergo very expensive tests, even when there are previous studies of its effectiveness.

No pharmaceutical company will spend its resources to prove that the consumption of a certain spice cures the flu, especially because they do not have a patent for its exclusive sale. At the most, they will take the spice and add unnecessary elements to it, then they will give it the form of a pill and then they will carry out the studies and then sell it to us.
