Transcription Mindfulness of the present moment without judgment
Mindfulness is a fundamental practice of intentionally directing one's attention to the present moment, observing internal (thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations) and external experiences as they are, without judging or attempting to change them.
This quality of attention is a cornerstone of anxiety management.
The Present as the Focus
Much anxiety is fueled by rumination about the past (mistakes, regrets) or anticipatory worry about the future (possible threats, failures).
Mindfulness trains us to anchor our awareness in the "here and now," the only moment in which we can truly live and act.
By focusing on the present experience—the breath, the sounds of the environment, the sensations in the body—we reduce the mental space occupied by anxious thoughts about other times.
The Attitude of Nonjudgment
A crucial component of mindfulness is nonjudgment.
When thoughts, emotions, or sensations arise, even unpleasant ones like anxiety, the practice involves observing them with an attitude of curiosity and acceptance, without labeling them as "good" or "bad," "right" or "wrong."
This acceptance does not imply resignation or passive approval of harmful situations, but rather a recognition of internal reality as it exists in that moment.
By letting go of fighting or judging internal experiences, the secondary suffering they generate is often reduced.
Mindfulness in Everyday Life
Mindfulness is not limited to formal meditation.
It can be practiced in any everyday activity, paying full attention to what you are doing: eating, walking, listening to another person, or doing household chores.
This integration of mindfulness into daily life helps develop greater awareness and reduce "pilot automatic" that often leads us to react in anxious ways. Cultivating the ability to be present without judgment allows you to observe anxious thought patterns without identifying with them, creating a space to respond to situations in a calmer and more thoughtful way.
