Clinical Incubation Periods

The pathological process triggered by this complex bacterial infection begins with a highly variable latent phase, known in the medical literature as the incubation period.

Morphology of the Primary Chancre

At the conclusion of the silent incubation period, the disease manifests physically through a characteristic dermatological lesion clinically termed the primary chancre.

This tissue change arises precisely at the specific anatomical site where the microbial agent originally entered the human body.

Morphologically, it presents as a solitary ulceration, exhibiting sharply defined edges, a base that is extremely firm and indurated to the touch, and a predominantly circular outline.

The most deceptive and dangerous clinical feature of this ulcerative lesion lies in its completely painless nature; since it causes no discomfort, burning, or acute tenderness, it often goes entirely unnoticed, especially when located in internal genital regions or deep skin folds that are difficult to inspect visually on a daily basis.

In addition to its harmless appearance, this primary manifestation has the biological characteristic of healing and disappearing spontaneously after a period ranging from three to six weeks, even in the complete absence of pharmacological intervention.

This deceptive skin resolution mistakenly leads the patient to believe that the health problem has been resolved, whereas, in physiological reality, the infection is only just beginning its uninterrupted, devastating internal systemic spread.
