Directive 2009/39/ec stipulates in Article 11 that food manufacturers when placing a product on the market for the first time, or importers in the case of a product produced in a third country, must notify the authorities of the member country where such marketing has been carried out, in the case of foods intended for consumers with special characteristics in their diets, and specifically those that have been formulated, processed or prepared for people with gluten intolerance, and which are marketed with the terms "gluten-free" or "very low in gluten".
